After a bit of a lull, we tackle the last part of the house - the basement.
We decided to paint the floor using garage floor paint. £20 per tin - two tins covered it all. Easy to apply and gives a good, easy-to-clean, durable surface. Then of course enter Bev for the obligatory door & architrave staining!
The floor is painted & the walls painted (with normal emulsion). Finally some shelving from IKEA.
Unlike the rest of the basement, we have not had this room plastered. The basement supplier (ThermoneX) says plastering is not necessary and that the walls can be painted directly - so we try it. In fact it turns out to be very easy. After the 1st coat there is a fair amount of filling required to take out the tiny air holes but it is easy to do & does indeed give a very good finish. I would not have plastered the other walls now!
We had intended to just use this as a store room but as we progressed it becomes obvious that it could be much more than that. We have therefore decided to make it a combined store/games room. See next month!
We finally received our £25,000 + VAT refund this month. Do remember to budget for this cash - it takes a long time to recover! You can only make one claim which must be after completion. We have been paying (i.e. lending to the treasury!) this VAT since October 2001!
