Week131 - 12Apr 2004

This week..

Final NHBC/Building Regulations Inspection

This week we passed our final inspection which officially means the house is complete. This triggers two important events:

On the latter, I wish I had taken more notice of the requirements for the VAT return earlier. The detail required is going to be a mammoth job & would have been much easier had I tracked the data from the beginning. I strongly advise self-builders to study the relevant requirements before you start work. You can call H M Customs & Excise National Advice Service on 0845-0109000 or visit www.hmce.gov.uk

With the house "officially" complete - we can concentrate on the remaining cosmetics!

Internal Door Oiling

The oiling of the internal doors with Danish Oil continues
another 10 completed this week.

Downstairs Toilet panelling & boxing

The next task is to complete the downstairs toilet.

1st the battens
then the MDF boxing
-
then the T&G panelling
-
finally the emulsion
-
Wooden floors versus carpet? Try sparaying this much sawdust on carpet!

BT's Home Highway ISDN Update

You will recall the on-going major dispute with BT (see Week 111 and all weeks since). It has been unusable since May 2003!

No progress this week.

To be continued.....

From the Archives....

So we don't forget what we have achieved here is a quick look at what we were doing one and two years ago.

Two years ago ( Week 27 ) its all hands on deck to mix & fill the chimney lining with vermiculite.
One year ago, (Week 79 ) we fit the kitchen for my parents.
